Away From Bharat
Bharatiya Kala Evam Sahitya Parishad ( also known as Indian Art and Literature Society ) was formed by families who wanted their children — and themselves — to stay connected to the rhythms, languages and philosophies of India while building a life in Canada. Based in Metro Vancouver, we're powered entirely by volunteers, hosting everything from intimate poetry evenings and karaoke nights to grand Diwali stage productions. We believe the arts and literature of Bharat belong to every generation of the diaspora — and there's a place on our stage, and in our audience, for artists, poets, families and newcomers alike.

Our Vision
To be a vibrant cultural home for the Indian diaspora in Canada, and a proud torchbearer of Bharat's 8,000-year civilizational, positive history and heritage — carrying forward the spirit of तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय (lead us from darkness to light) and वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् (the world is one family), so that every generation can experience, learn and celebrate the timeless arts, literature and wisdom of India.
Our Mission
To nurture Bhartiya kala, sahitya and sanskriti through inclusive, volunteer-led events, research and creative expression which connect artists, poets, families and friends across communities in Metro Vancouver — building awareness of Indian art and literature, and aligning our community with its roots.

Our actions are guided by the timeless art and culture of India — a civilizational thread that binds all of humanity together.
We live by the Indian value system and the ancient philosophy of vasudhaiva kutumbakam — “the whole world is one family.”
BKSP is politically non-partisan. We are not affiliated with, or funded by, any political organization.
We cooperate with organizations that share our causes and philosophy, working together to strengthen Indian and Canadian values alike.
BKSP does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, race, colour, nationality, caste, gender, national origin, region, language, age or disability. Everyone has a place on our stage and in our audience.
